Anesthesiology is a medical specialty that deals with reduction or removal of the consciousness and the feeling of external stimuli( anesthesia) i.e. reduction and removal of the feeling of pain during various diagnostic or therapeutic, most frequently surgical procedures and at the same time continuously monitoring vital functions and maintaining internal homeostasis within physiological limits.
A specialty doctor that practices anesthesia is called anesthesiologist. The anesthesiology studies last for 4 years in Montenegro and during the studies the students learn about: general anesthesiology, special anesthesiology, resuscitation and intensive therapy.
